STUDENTS GIVE VEGAN FOOD FOR NATIONAL “MEAT OUT"

AUSTIN- Students will distribute free veggie burgers, chili, tacos and other vegan food on the UT campus Tuesday as part of the national “Great American Meatout.”

The event will take place Tuesday, March 20, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. outside the Texas Union (near 23rd and Guadalupe).

Similar events will take place across the nation, encouraging people to kick the meat out of their diet for a day, week or a lifetime.

“People often think going vegetarian means eating twigs and leaves,” said Kamber Sherrod, representative of Students Against Cruelty to Animals. “But becoming vegetarian or vegan doesn’t mean sacrificing quality or convenience. It actually means more variety, more taste and better health.”

Rather than bombard people with graphic images, health statistics or scenes of environmental destruction, the Meatout focuses attention on working toward a meat-free diet. SACA encourages students to make a commitment to go vegetarian or vegan for a day, week or month, and stick to it by cooking with friends, attending potlucks or participating in our “adopt a vegetarian” program. Recipes, coupons and cooking ideas will be available.
