RELEASE STUDENTS URGE NEIMAN MARCUS BOYCOTT: AUSTIN- Students will rally on the UT campus Thursday to oppose Neiman Marcus’ recruitment efforts on campus and their support of the fur industry. Neiman Marcus will be interviewing and recruiting UT students through Feb. 27 as part of their “campus recruiting schedule.” In response, UT students will rally on the West Mall of the UT campus, from 12:15-1:45 p.m. Although thousands of retailers choose to no longer sell fur products, Neiman Marcus still operates 27 fur departments in the United States. The company is consistently met with opposition when they attempt to recruit at universities across the nation, and they are the focus of national boycotts and demonstrations. Animals raised in fur farms resort to nervous pacing and self-mutilation as a result of their intensive confinement. The primary killing methods on fur farms are gassing, neck-breaking and anal/vaginal electrocution. Please see www.neimans.org for more information. The rally is organized by Students Against Cruelty to Animals (UT). Last semester SACA members negotiated the release of a Beagle from the UT Animal Resources Center, and forced a private company to discontinue their research on campus. |
