Sept. 20, 2005: The Ensign-Byrd Amendment to the Agriculture Appropriations Bill passed in the Senate with an overwhelming majority, 68-29. Our own Kay Bailey Hutchison voted in favor to ban horse slaughter in the United States. Many senators reported that their offices were flooded with calls from animal lovers. This is a huge victory. Also notable, SACA members raised $450 for the Humane Society of the United States Legislative Fund!
